Quote of the Day

Last night the CG meeting was different. We played Taboo game. In short, we were to guess the secret word without mentioning the key word related to that secret word.

It was fun and I guess many people enjoyed themselves.

Instead of having normal CG meeting, we had sharing time and each of us mentioned a prayer request.

In the end, we celebrated two members’ birthday. Unfortunately I left behind my camera in the hall, so I could not take any picture/video.

I have been planning to write this quote since long time ago..

Courtesy of Kisame Hoshigaki (Naruto).

“What does that make me? Am I friend? Am I foe?”

“What is my purpose? My intention?”

“Where do I go? Where can I go?”

“I am well aware that my life has been one giant lie.”

“This world is really nothing but lies.”

….

Lies…

Mistakes..

Failures…

Hezekiah’s Prayer

I guess this following passage about Hezekiah’s prayer sounds familiar to you.

When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly. (Isa 38:2-3, NLT)

Have you ever prayed like this to God?

“God, I have given tithe, offering, and building fund. I have served in the ministry and faithfully reached out to the lost. But now, where is my blessing?”

Pastor Tan gave a real life example, “God, where is my husband?”

Peter the apostle asked Lord Jesus, “Lord, we have forsaken everything in order to follow You. What is our reward?”

A few days ago, I prayed similar prayer: “Lord Jesus, I have (done this and that). All I asked for is *** (secret, ok?).”

I guess there is nothing wrong when one expects God’s blessing or reward after he/she obeys God’s commandment. It is just like a farmer who expects a great harvest after months of sowing and cultivating. In fact, God himself has promised blessing for the obedient (Deuteronomy 28).

My reward shall come..

Yes, my breakthrough is on the way…

Prayer

A few days ago Edmund (thanks, Edmund!) forwarded an article about prayer written by Max Lucado. There is one portion there which really attracts me.

“Most of us struggle with prayer. We forget to pray, and when we remember, we hurry through prayers with hollow words. Our minds drift; our thoughts scatter like a covey of quail. Why is this? Prayer requires minimal effort. No location is prescribed. No particular clothing is required. No title or office is stipulated. Yet you’d think we were wrestling a greased pig.” (emphasis mine)

Hmm, this is true when it comes to prayer before meal. Pretty often I hurry through the prayers especially when I have meal with friends. Maybe when I have meal alone, I can still discipline my mind and pray earnestly. Does the same thing happen to you? If yes, do you have any idea how we can pray earnestly before meal when we are with friends? At least for now, I can’t think of any solution.

But most importantly, prayer must be earnest during personal quite time. As a comparison, we put 100% attention when we talk to our boss or our life partner. How much more we should focus while talking to the King of kings!

So, what is the solution to prevent drifting mind and hollow words? Just imagine as if God is right in front of us as we talk to Him Smile

Pray often! Pray more! Pray again!

Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking.

Conversation Over Dinner on Saturday

Have a good laugh Open-mouthed smile Open-mouthed smile

A friend tried to poke straw into the cap of the sugar cane cup. Me, on the other hand, tried to help to no avail.

Jeffrey:       Jefri, manhood, you know!

Jefri:             What manhood? I wanted to remove cap for her. It is easier for the straw to go in.

Jacqueline: Girls don’t like that!

Jefri:              Why not we just remove the cap? We can even drink it directly without any straw.

All:                 *sweat…

Jefri:          I used to approach *** (a girl’s name). But now, I have given up. So, I am trying to approach another girl.

All:             WHO???

Jefri:         SECRET!!

Friend 1: The one with long hair (friend 1 knows whom I like)

Kit Qin:    K***? S***? ***, *** (and other names of girls whom I don’t even know).

Wailun:   Must be from team A!

Jacqueline: Men are like waffles, women are like spaghetti

Jefri:              Oh, I am somewhere in between. So, I have the best of both worlds.

Robin:          Jefri, you are half baked waffles.

Dorinna:      Why are you all eating noodles?

Jefri:             Oh, noodles are slippery, smooth, easier to swallow.

All:                 *sweat…

Jacqueline: He meant what he said.

Dorinna:       What about the taste?

Jefri:              All food tastes nice as long as we are hungry.

All:                 *sweat…

Jacqueline: He meant what he said.

Jeffrey:   Can you guess my age?

Dorinna: 20+?

Jeffrey:   I am 31.

Dorinna: Usually we are never wrong when we guess people’s age (referring to Mike and her). But only for these two, then we got the age wrong (referring to Jeffrey and me).

Jefri:        Then, how old did you think I was?

Mike:       30

Yeah, right, I look way older than my age!

Dorinna:        Please be nice toward ***. The family has some problem.

Jefri:                I will teach him to be a real man!

Jacqueline:   (looking at me) You can only teach what you have.

Hehehehe, fellowship time rocks!

Summary of Saturday’s Happening

Another exciting post from an exciting time of serving.

Team B managed to finish the set up, display and cleaning much earlier. Even Cherry was amazed with that. Then, we had a product sharing session:

James: Ten Critical Laws of Relationship

23102010641

Jasmine: But God

23102010642

Robin: Facing the Giants

23102010643

Dorinna brought cupcakes!! Praise the LORD! She is the key person which makes team B Saturday Expo more fantastic than any other teams!! Hehehe, some of you may envy us Smile with tongue out Smile with tongue out She brought cheese cream, plain and milk cupcakes.

23102010644 23102010645

Cherry had an idea which she had implemented since last week: to cut the cross word puzzle from City News and then invite the customers to participate in it. Honestly, the puzzle Morgan set is harder than the previous one. But of course, he privately gave us more hint and we in turn gave hint to the customers as well Open-mouthed smile

Pastor Tan preached about the work of God. For us, we may not want to experience death. But for God, God wants us to experience the glory of resurrection. Hence, He allows death to come to our life in many different forms. “Are you willing to be sick so that God’s name be glorified?” he asked. Hmm, that’s really a serious question to ponder. In the end, he mentioned that coming to church is like coming a hairstylist: God is the hairstylist. He trims and cuts our hair here and there, in other words, He molds and shapes us to become more and more like Jesus Lord. Hmm, that was a wonderful analogy indeed Smile

After the duty, many funny things happened. A friend’s jeans were torn. I heard it happened when he was kneeling down. Well, maybe because he is too fat..? Smile with tongue out

We celebrated Dorinna’s birthday!! Unfortunately, my HP was running out of battery, so I could not take full video. As usual, only Attributes people can see the video.

Fellowship time! We had dinner at usual place: Bedok Smile with tongue out unlike team A, many team B people stay in the east. Sorry, again there is no picture.. >.<

A conversation full of laughter took place… (to be continued)

CG Meeting Yesterday

Yup, CG meeting yesterday was a big celebration.

1.) A member who had been chased out from her home began to experience reconciliation with her parents.

2.) A member who had been unable to attend service and CG meeting due to heavy working schedule managed to be there yesterday

3.) A member’s sister in law managed to give birth despite a problem with the baby and the umbilical cord.

Praise the LORD!

The sermon was about peace. What is peace?

Me:           No war

Friend 1: No exam

Friend 2: No school

Somehow, I realized I could not feel comfortable being around certain group of people. Childhood trauma, you  may consider it. I do not know, I just hope I can be nice to them, at least..

Then, refreshment time! Fellowship is a must after CG meeting, ok? Open-mouthed smile

Living Without Dream vs Living With Wrong/Fake/Nearly Impossible Dream

A thought I have been having recently. Which one do I prefer: living without dream? Or, living with wrong/fake/nearly impossible dream?

Let’s see Haku from Naruto series, for instance.

Haku (credit to Narutopedia)

When he was a kid, his father killed his mother. When the father tried to kill him, Haku accidentally killed him with his hidden ability. Since then, his life was a misery: having to scrap food among the trash and had to live outside at cold streets. One day, a terrorist Zabusa found him, who then gave him a life purpose: to become Zabusa’s living weapon/tool.

Quotes from him:

“I realised the most painful thing…… That in this world… my existence was not needed.”

“Can you understand? Not having a dream… not being needed by anyone… The pain of merely being alive.”

“I want to protect the person important to me… I want to work for that person. I want to fight for that person. I want to make that person’s dream come true… That is my dream.”

Apparently for him, he would rather live to assist Zabusa the terrorist (which is really a wrong dream from our perspective) than live without any dream at all. In the end, he voluntarily sacrificed himself for Zabusa.

Somehow, I can identify myself with him. I would rather live in a nearly impossible dream than live with no dream. Living with nearly impossible dream only causes momentary disappointment (albeit can be a huge one) whereas living with no dream gives empty feeling every single day. Although in the end I may have to voluntarily/involuntarily detach myself from that dream, at least I try to achieve it and I don’t have to experience daily emptiness.

And, that is what I have been doing at this moment… The chance of achieving this current dream is pretty small… But, hopefully this dream I am having will come to pass…

Sabbath Day

Hmm, somehow, I have been reading a lot about Sabbath day nowadays.

“ Blessed is the man who does this, the man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” (Isa 56:2, NIV, emphasis added)

“ And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to serve him, to love the name of the LORD, and to worship him, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant-“ (Isa 56:6, NIV, emphasis added)

“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,” (Isa 58:13, NIV, emphasis added)

I guess my decision to do part time in team A is really a good one. Otherwise, I do not know how else I should spend a Saturday. Last time, when it was not my duty, I played Facebook and did a little bit of experiment before coming to church. At that time, somehow I felt guilty because I played Facebook until I had a bit of headache and I was afraid if I did experiment and obtained good result, then I would be tempted to come to church later than my usual arrival time.

But now, I will never be late to come to church. Sabbath Day is really the time I can keep myself occupied with the things of God.

Fourth Commandment: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” (Exo 20:8, NIV, emphasis added)
