Jianxiong and Praise Wedding 19, May, 2012

My third time attending a wedding this year.
It was held at City Harvest Church Jurong West St 91.
Seeing all these wedding events,… I swear by the name of my cat that I will get married soon! (… wait, I have no cat!)

CG Meeting 17, May, 2012

A CG Meeting last Thursday.
It was a video sermon by Pastor Kong to summarize the Crossover project.
A take home message:
1.) What is the vision God has given to us this year? Are we on the track to achieving it?
2.) What is the spiritual discipline we want to improve in order to fulfill this vision?
3.) Do we still have the heart to reach out to the lost?

After the meeting, we enjoyed some cake refreshment.
Thanks a lot, Shirley!

We celebrated members’ birthday too.

Mike, our product trainer.
When John C. Maxwell comes, we are expecting around 4000 customers in the bookstore.
With the promotion of buy 2 get 1 free and book signing by him, this figure may be an underestimation.
TIR is going for war!!!

Supervisor’s Gift

Fried snack given by supervisor to me.
I passed it around to lab colleagues.
In the end, I only took one stick and my colleagues finished the rest.

CG Sermon 10, May, 2012

God resists the proud but He gives grace to the humble.
James 4:6

We receive God’s grace by bowing before Him.
What is pride? Pride is about self exaltation.
Proud people are judgmental and they exclude God from the picture.

Humility creates environment for grace and it is expressed in the spirit of brokenness.
Spirit brokenness: always leaning on God’s strength.
Humble people yearn to draw close to God so they know how to please God.
Relationship with God, after all, is delicate.

More importantly, humility is an attitude we should cultivate.
It requires self-discipline to be humble before God.
Let’s choose humility always, shall we?

CG Sermon: He Who Wins Soul is Wise

Again, I found this long lost note of CG Sermon.
This was preached before Easter service.
Yet, I think it is still relevant for us today.

Proverb 11:30
Winning a soul here can be interpreted as winning a friend.
It is not easy to win a good impression from someone whom we may meet for the first time.
But at least, when it comes to a conversation, there are 5 ways we can do to win a friend:

1.) Use the person’s name.
Statistically, it has been shown that 3 minutes after shaking hand, we will forget the person’s name.
So, we should keep mentioning his/her name throughout the conversation.
It sounds more sincere too.

2.) Ask open-ended question.
Who, why, what, when, where and how.
These questions can keep the conversation going.

3.) Paraphrase their answers.
Sometimes, the person may have different accent so we can’t hear him/her clearly.
In that situation, we should paraphrase their answer to our question.

4.) Focus on their passion.
Watch when his/her eyes become big when the conversation hits a certain topic.
Keep that topic going.

5.) Conclude.
End the conversation on high.
Wikihow gives a very good way to end a conversation politely. (see here)

Hmm, for me, I think I need to sharpen all these five when I talk to new people.
Sometimes, I may forget them. Shall practice more!

A dinner with friends on Sunday night.
It was after their test in a guitar class.
Well, they passed their test. Happy for them!

Some hearty meal at Thai Express Esplanade.
They wanted to train my resistance to spicy food.
I sweated because of the food, not the weather.
