Pastor A. R. Bernard 24, October, 2015 Peace of the Believer

God gives people for different seasons for our lives. He also gives people for throughout our lives
Proverbs 17:17
Friend is someone i can count on even when i mess up because a friend loves at all times.
Brother is born for adversity. There are people God gives to us in such a way as though they share the same blood as us.

The gospel of John sees Jesus as God. John spoke intimacy between Jesus and His disciples. At the Last Supper, Jesus had such intimate communion with the disciples.
In chapter 13, Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. He demonstrated that the attitude of believers should be that of service and humility.
He assured them that the Holy Spirit would take His place to guide them.
In chapter 16, Jesus told them what would happen ahead of them.
John 17, Jesus prayed for them.
Jesus suppressed His personal feeling so He could encourage them.
John 16:33
Jesus spoke of tribulation in 2 ways.

Great tribulation (Matt 24): The kingdom of Israel experiences prosperity so much that the surrounding nations are envious and attack Israel.

Tribulation. Suffering and affliction common to all human beings. It is different from bearing the cross of Christ. This affliction won’t go away once we become Christians. We simply deal with affliction in God’s way.

Job 14:1
He lost his health, family and wealth. Even friends accused him of wrongdoing.
Even if we live to 70-80 years old, it is still short as compared to human history. We experience trouble even if we experience good times.

John 16:33
His promise: We will have tribulation. In Him, we will have peace as He is the Prince of Peace. Peace from the world is not genuine peace.
Jesus overcame the world. Our faith in Him makes us overcomers. We can have peace too.
Isaiah 26:3
In distress, our mind is filled with everything but God. We need to discipline our mind to trust in God.
Peace is not the absence of tribulation. Peace is the presence of trust in God. If we don’t experience peace, it means we don’t trust God.
It’s a peace when we believe God is in control and has the best interest for us in His heart.
Job 13:15
Job assumed God was behind his suffering. Although he couldn’t reconcile his situation with his theology, although he thought God would slay him, he still trusted God.
The greater we trust God, the greater the peace.
If there is anything the devil tries to do, he wants us to stop trusting God

CHC Trial — A Message from Pastor Phil

It is a tough time for City Harvest Church members.
In essence, according to the judge, money for church building must not be used for church mission.

Am looking forward to the sermon by Pastor A. R. Bernard tomorrow and from Pastor Phil Pringle next week.
Maybe they have a message from God for CHC.

Pastor Kong’s Sermon 17, October, 2015 Giving Room to the Holy Spirit

When God first built man from the dust, Adam was first a carcass. The moment God breathed His Spirit into Adam, Adam became a living soul.
To stay alive and dynamic, we need to live in the realm of the Spirit.
2 Cor 5:7
In every decision and planning, it is based on faith in the realm of the Spirit. If it is purely done out of reasoning, the church is nothing more than humanistic social club.
We can create space for the Holy Spirit to move.
What are some ingredients for the Holy Spirit to move?

1. Give the Holy Spirit room through our thinking.
Even if it is mustard seed faith, that’s enough to move the Spirit.
The 10 Israelites spies didn’t have thought of possessing the Promised Land, that thought spread to the whole camp. The 2 spies had the right thought of believing God’s promise.
We need to meditate on God’s promise days and nights.

2. Give the Holy Spirit room through our hope
Jer 29:11
God is very hopeful about the CHC. God is hopeful about our well being, career and health.
A dream cannot be just a good idea. Vision and dream must be birthed by the Spirit. It must be God’s idea.
Joshua 6:2, 3-5
God wanted Joshua to see the victory in his mind. Even, God gave him specific vision.
The more we pray and meditate, the more specific the dream becomes.
We visualize ourselves healthy, happily married, with children.

3. Give the Holy Spirit room through our believing
Matt 11:28, Mark 9:23
We choose to believe in God even when the circumstance seems contrary.

4. Give the Holy Spirit room through our speaking
Proverb 18:21. Genesis 1.
Words are primarily for creation.
We keep confessing His word again and again.

CHC Trial 21, October, 2015 (Day of Verdict)

“For all the dreamers, our planet’s dream is not over yet.”
– Chrono Cross –

We lost the battle today.
But, it is not the last battle.
It is true that the current verdict is not favorable toward the leaders.
However, it is still not the end.
Remember the case of NUS professor who was involved in sex-for-grades case?
He was acquitted by the High Court.
I really think CHC leaders should appeal to High Court (assuming they have enough finance).
But for now, I guess they should really rest their mind and body.

Stay strong, CHC!
