Patience and Soft Speech

“Patience can persuade a prince, and soft speech can break bones.”
– Proverb 25:15 (NLT) –

The Spirit fruit of patience.
How should one cultivate this particular Spirit fruit? It is through waiting.

Many times we need to wait until God’s promise comes to pass.
As a human being, we have our own timing.
However, God is the Creator and He has His own timing too.
We should follow His timing, not the other way round.
Trying to rush God to follow our timing is the same as trying to make ourselves more superior than God.
Ridiculous, isn’t it? Yet many times we do rush God.

In times of peace, waiting for God to move is one thing.
In times of suffering and persecution for Christ’s sake, waiting for God is completely different thing!
We need patience all the more!
What is patience? Long suffering.
In other words, we are willing to suffer long until God sends help.

We need to wait too when it comes to love.
”Do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases” (Songs 2:7)
But, let’s talk about it some other time.

Soft speech. Being tactful.
It is about what we say (i.e. choice of words) and how we say it (i.e. gesture).
We need to be wise with choice of words as some words may carry double meaning.
In addition, at times body language speaks louder than words.

In the midst of heated argument, we need to practice soft speech the most.
Certainly, replying harsh word with harsh word is not gonna do any good.
In contrast, replying harsh word with soft speech is like pouring water onto fire.
Soft speech can break bones. It can melt even a hardened heart.

With God’s help, we can definitely develop patience and soft speech.
