Staying Humble

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Phil 2:3 (NLT)

There are many Scriptures which talk about humility.
Today, let us learn from this verse above.
It teaches us that one way to stay humble is by thinking of others as better than ourselves.
How do we do that?

Each of us has our own strength and weakness.
As we get to know others better, we now have a choice to emphasize on either their strength or weakness.
If we emphasize at others’ strength more often than their weakness, it is easier to think of others as better than ourselves. In other words, it is easier to stay humble.
It does not mean we should have low self esteem. It simply means we appreciate their strength and our own strength.
If we emphasize at others’ weakness more often than their strength, it is easier for us to become pride.
It does not mean we completely close our eyes toward their weakness. If possible, we should help others to overcome their weakness.

One practical way to do so is by complimenting others.
It is not about lip service. It has to be a genuine compliment flowing out of our heart.
As we compliment others, we are encouraging them to develop their potential
As iron sharpens iron, our compliment sharpens others’ strength.

Let us stay humble always, shall we?
