Reunion dinner with Leow family!!!
Nice food! Awesome fellowship as we watched the movie Hearty Paw.

Feeling hungry again just by looking at the food.

Stop trying to change the universe to work the way you think it should.
Grief is essentially the process of adjusting your mind to accept a radically new situation.
The sooner you accept that you will not get your way, the sooner you will heal.
When you give up wishing things were different, you will start to change within.
Let go of those resentment.
Release your grip on what you want, no matter how good or right you think it is.

As you surrender your expectation, ask the Lord to show you His plan.
Ask Him to open your eyes to the future He desires, and determine to join Him in whatever He has chosen to do.
Take your time with this.
Transformation is a slow and sometimes tedious process.

Conviction and Mitigation

Showing partiality is never good, yet some will do wrong for a mere piece of bread.
Proverb 28:21

We have certain set of laws for our daily conduct and we are obliged to follow it.
As long as we obey it, things are going to be fine.
In general, there is hardly any excuse not to follow the law.
Of course, if we are in the position of lawmakers, then we are able to modify it.

When somebody does not stick to the law, most of the time we have to say it is wrong.
We cannot say wrong to one lawbreaker and close eyes to another lawbreaker.
Doing that means showing partiality.
Indeed, most of the time we have to convict the lawbreakers.

At the same time, there are lawbreakers who do that due to difficult circumstance.
Some people steal due to lack of money, for example.
Mitigation is where we take into account that circumstance surrounding the lawbreakers so we can properly decide the penalty due to them.

Let’s be bold and stand for the truth.
When something is wrong, let’s declare it wrong.
When something is right, let’s declare it right.

Wisdom, the application of knowledge in daily life.
When we are presented with a few good choices, we need to wisdom to discern which is the best option.
If we need wisdom, we can come to God who will generously give to us (James 1:5).

Pastor Bobby’s Sermon 21, January, 2017

Proverb 4:23
How is our life going to be like? It depends on our heart.
All of life issues spring out of the heart.
If we want a change, we should change the belief system in our heart.

Proverb 29:18
If we can’t see what God is doing, we will stumble.
How do we see what God is doing? We have to do Bible study.
Belief system -> worldview -> behavior

What has God revealed to us?
Genesis 1:1-3
In the beginning. Before there was animal or human, God exists.
The material was subordinate to the immaterial.
The visible world was subject to the invisible world.
In 2017, our world can change because He is the Creator. He creates out of nothing.

We are trained to analyze the natural.
Often we forget the supernatural.
Even when the earth was without form, the Spirit was hovering. Can we see what God is doing?
Psalm 33:6,9
By the word of the Lord. It was by His idea, not by human opinion.
It is not what the economists say.

Genesis 18:13-14
Is there anything too hard for the LORD?
When God says yes, it means yes.

Jer 32:17, 27
There is nothing too hard for the LORD.
God can change human heart.

Belief in God the Creator is essential.
He is our Source in overcoming adversity in life.
Exodus 20:9-11
He instituted Sabbath for us to remember that He is the Creator.
Sometimes when we labor, distraction comes. It draws limitation in our heart.
So, once a week, He commanded us to look vertically instead of horizontally.

How do we navigate through the wilderness? We read the book of Numbers.
Numbers 13:30-33
Caleb is confident. Nothing is too hard the Lord
The 10 spies said we are not able.
As a result of their unbelief, the entire generation died after 40 years of wandering.
How did 10 spies draw their conclusion?
Their problem was a sight problem. Their heart was full of unbelief. Hence, it affected their vision. Then, they gave discouraging report.

Joshua 14:7-10
Caleb saw the giants, similar to the 10 spies.
Nevertheless, he gave encouraging report based on their hearts
Caleb was not moved by what he saw. He was moved by the promise of God.
Caleb held on one word of the Lord for 45 years.

Luke 8:23-25
The storm was real. They were about to die.
Lord Jesus did not deny the danger. It was real danger.
Nevertheless, He demonstrated that He is the Creator.
He is not far away distant God. He lives among us.

Luke 5:15-16
It was a time of great revival. However, Lord Jesus took time off and withdrew Himself to spend  time with the Heavenly Father.
In the midst of all the success, we must go back to Him as He is the Source.

Luke 22:41-43
It was a time of great agony.
Lord Jesus invoked the supernatural.

In the midst of suffering, Job mentioned.
Job 14:7-9
Even when tree is cut down, the stump can grow forth again as long as there is water.

Human is like a tree.
Storm cuts down us to a stump.
All we need is water then we can grow again.
John 7:37-38
Water is the picture of the Holy Spirit.
This is the same as the creation.
With the Holy Spirit, we can regenerate.

The Disciples Beyond 15, January, 2017

Attended the performance by The Disciples, a group of dancers consisting members from City Harvest and other affiliate churches.
They held it at Jurong West.
Titled Beyond, the performance shows the church members reaching out beyond the walls of the church.

The MC of the night interviewing 2 of the dancers.

Energetic performance by the Disciples.
Phew, I guess it was really tiring for them.

Pastor Aries preached about the importance of dance as a mean to praise God.
Great performance of dance will bring in influence.
What are dancer gonna do with the influence?
For Salome, she used her dance to get John the Baptist beheaded. A really tragic and negative example.

Well, I can’t dance but at least I can exercise ~~

Our big and happy Connexion group!
Can’t wait to see them again soon! ^____^

Secret Sin

He who covers his sins will not prosper,
but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
Proverb 28:13

Judas Iscariot is the epitome of double life.
As an apostle, He did not merely watch Lord Jesus create miracle; he even received the power to heal the sick and authority to cast out demons.

However, such a godly association with Lord Jesus did not automatically make him godly.
On the inside, he harbored resentment that Lord Jesus refused to be the king who would deliver the Jews from Roman dominion.
Secretly he stole from the treasury.
In fact, he betrayed Lord Jesus.

As the verse teaches, Judas concealed his sin and did not prosper.
As we know, he committed suicide after betraying the Lord.
If only he had confessed and forsaken his secret sin, what a completely different story it would have been!

Is there any secret sin in our lives?
Perhaps the Holy Spirit has been speaking to us to forsake certain sinful habit.
Let us confess and forsake it.
Otherwise, we will live a double life similar to Judas.

(Thanks, Michael and another friend, for the great photos!!)

Had a great dinner at Omakase Burger with my fellow church friends!!
Great burger. So fresh and juicy beef patty.
Had a great chat about life too: overseas pulpit ministry, making sales, Bible translation in Hokkien/Cantonese, 30-hours of work, cleaning chemicals, arranging lesson for kids, etc.
Can’t wait to meet them again!!!
