Conviction and Mitigation

Showing partiality is never good, yet some will do wrong for a mere piece of bread.
Proverb 28:21

We have certain set of laws for our daily conduct and we are obliged to follow it.
As long as we obey it, things are going to be fine.
In general, there is hardly any excuse not to follow the law.
Of course, if we are in the position of lawmakers, then we are able to modify it.

When somebody does not stick to the law, most of the time we have to say it is wrong.
We cannot say wrong to one lawbreaker and close eyes to another lawbreaker.
Doing that means showing partiality.
Indeed, most of the time we have to convict the lawbreakers.

At the same time, there are lawbreakers who do that due to difficult circumstance.
Some people steal due to lack of money, for example.
Mitigation is where we take into account that circumstance surrounding the lawbreakers so we can properly decide the penalty due to them.

Let’s be bold and stand for the truth.
When something is wrong, let’s declare it wrong.
When something is right, let’s declare it right.
