Delighting Self in the LORD

Pastor Phil preached a fantastic sermon this weekend about happiness.
A certain portion of his sermon really inspired me.

“I am happy, content with I have now.
I am still believing for greater things to come.
However, my happiness does not depend on those greater things.”

Somehow these lines remind me of a verse.

“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
– Psalm 37:4 –

It will be kind of a long learning process to delight myself in the LORD.
I do have prayer requests, hoping that God will grant them.
However, can I delight myself in the LORD now, before He grants me my requests?

Difficult question.
Really difficult.

Pastor Phil Pringle’s Sermon 7, June, 2014

It isn’t difficult situation that makes us perish. We perish when we lose vision.
Discouragement makes us look down. Guilty makes us avoid eye contact.
God gives us vision to see bigger thing than our present. The devil will come with bad imagination to discourage us.
A vision is where we are going

John 4:35
Lift up your eyes
We may not see high or far enough. But, Lord Jesus asked us to lift up our eyes.
The context of this verse: Lord Jesus had a conversation with a woman by the well.
She eventually started the revival in her city.
The disciples came and were surprised by the conversation. Lord Jesus told them to lift up their eyes to see the harvest.

1 Cor 10:24
1.) We see others too for their well being.

2.) We see positive
Heb 12:1-2
No matter how difficult the situation is, we should see Jesus. We should stop looking at problems.
Ps 5:3
When we pray, we look up.

3.) See a new perspective
There is always opportunity accompanied with problems. Sometimes a  good thing can come out of a bad thing.

4.) See God your source
Phil 4:19
Mark 6:35-44
John 6:5-6
God takes our finance, blesses it and returns it to us abundantly.

5.) See bigger
Gen 13:14-16
What we can see, God can bring into our lives.

6.) see abundance
Gen 15:5
When we lift up our eyes toward God, we discover limitless possibilities.

7.) See transformation
Gen 31:12
Our vision can transform the world.

8.) See unashamed
Ps 3:1-3
There are days we can’t lift up our head. God comes and lifts us up.
Rm 8:30-34
God is for us, He is on our side.

Pastor Phil Pringle’s Sermon 25, January, 2014: The Unshakable Church

Heb 12:26-28
God wants to shake the heaven and the earth. Finance, politics and economy are shaken so we who are unshakeable will be stronger.

2 Thes 2:1-2
It is important to make it to the end by staying unshakeable.

Eph 4:14
There are many winds of doctrines trying to shake us from our faith. It’s about us following Lord Jesus wholeheartedly.

How to be unshakable?

1.) dig deep-preparation.
Luke 6:47-48
Preparation can be annoying because nobody sees. Preparation: prayer, bible reading.

2.) commitment
A goods start: to serve God, to keep punctuality, keep attending the church.

3.) Jesus is the cornerstone.
God has given teachers.
Yet, we must keep our eyes with Jesus.
Relationship with Jesus is more important than any other relationship. He is the cornerstone.

Pastor Phil’s Sermon 19, October, 2013

Isa 54:2-3
Enlarge: Christians are meant to be big people. No situation should make us diminish.
The key to enlarge is to step out in faith. Even though the journey is nerve wrecking  and uncomfortable, we should still step out.
Strengthen your stake: deepen our commitment in the local church.
Do not spare: do not hesitate in giving.
Expand to the left and right: increase in influence.

2 Cor 8:1-4
Corinth was a rich city. Macedonian was a poor city.
There are 8 reasons for Christians to give (this is particularly important in the coming building fund session):

1.) 2 Cor 8:4. Others have given and begged to be involved.
Hearts follow money. Hence when we give to building fund, our heart is with God.

2,) 2 Cor 8:7-8 the responsibility of leadership.
Corinth exceled in many areas. So, they were encouraged to excel in giving too.
CHC is an inspiration to many churches in term of giving.
We should move into the world of substantial giving. Giving happens because leaders decide to give.

3.) 2 Cor 8:9. The example of Christ.
Most may think that it refers to spiritual riches. However, this verse can refer to material riches.
We are blessed to become a blessing.
Good Samaritan in modern day: we are able to pay hospital fees of a stranger. Poverty mindset: false humility.

4.) 2 Cor 8;10-11. The integrity of promise.
No matter how difficult the situation is, we should keep our promises.

5.) 2 Cor 9:2-5. The power of testimony.
Apostle Paul used Corinth churches as a testimony to stir up other churches.

6.) 2 Cor 9:6-8. The law of giving.
Abundant reaping comes from abundant giving.

7.) 2Cor 9:10. God will supply seed to the sower.
Sower: keeps giving habitually.
God will supply since He is the Creator. His resource never runs out.
Hag 2:6-7.
God will shake the world: He will shake the financial market and He will put finance in the hands of His children.

8.) 2 Cor 9:12-13 the glory of God.
One little act of generosity may even save a soul for eternity.

Pastor Phil Pringle’s Sermon 7, August, 2013: True Worship 2

Habakkuk 3:17-19
Even when things go bad, we can still worship God for who He is.
We should still come to church in the midst of difficulty.
God will take care of our work.

Hebrews 13:15
Sacrifice of praise: to praise God even when things are difficult.
We should praise and worship God for our past, present and future.

Psalm 103:1-5
Worship should be wholehearted. We should not get distracted.
Sometimes, we should force ourselves to worship God.
God’s name reveals His character.
He is holy: separate and full of integrity.
Forget not: we should remind ourselves about His work.
Worship makes us whole in the same way the one leper who gave thank to Lord Jesus, unlike 9 others.
The greatest reason we worship God is because of the salvation He gave.

Yo yo yo!
If you notice, I haven’t written about the bookstore duty for very long.
Reason? The battery of my camera phone spoilt and I had not bought one for a few months.
Now with the new battery, I am able to capture many photos and record videos.
