Theosis: Spiritual Union

Salvation is for joining us with God.
Hence, we need to draw closer to God and become more like Him.
Salvation is Christ-like transformation.
While reading the Bible is good, we also need to pray and praise.
The goal of Christians is not to be more upright person.
Christianity is about intimate relationship with God.

Spirit-filled transformation is about walking in the light (righteousness), in love and power.
We are declared righteous before God so we can declare His righteousness before the world.
God shows us His power through the Holy Spirit.
Faith works through love as love is the greatest.
We cannot just focus on 1. We need to have all 3: righteousness, power and love.

How do we know we have the Holy Spirit?

1. Intense hunger for righteousness.
2. Deep crucifixion of self
3. Continual praise.
4. Unspeakable love for God and for one another.

Christian affection
Genuine Christian faith should be expressed through emotion.
It is the heart of our spirituality.
Without this affection, our Christian faith will be dry.
Affection is different from feeling. While feeling is temporary, affection is more permanent.

If we are truly spiritual, we will have 3 affections:
1) Gratitude
2) Compassion
3) Courage

While we desire to have godlike power, God who is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-present choose to be a human being.

Phil 2:5-7
When we deal with other people, we need to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: though He is all-powerful, He chose to be a regular human being.
He did it so He could save us.

Lord Jesus came down to earth to identify with our humanity and weakness so He could save us.

What does it mean to be human? It means we acknowledge our human limitation and instead we depend on God.

Which one is easier: to say “I forgive you” or “I heal you”?
For God, healing is easy as it does not require Him to personally come down from heaven,
However, dealing with sins is much harder as it requires Him to personally come down.

When we embrace our human limitation, we start to learn to depend on God.

God cannot turn our weakness into strength when we are too busy denying that the weakness exists or being ashamed about it.

We are created to depend on God, not independent from God. After all, God has placed a vacuum inside us only He can fulfill.

When we depend on God,

1) We develop healthy confidence.
Just like David and Goliath. David faced Goliath in the name of the LORD.

2) We develop healthy humility

3) We become balanced Christians.
Job’s friends failed to show compassion toward Job.
